Choosing a Path to Success

Eighth graders at Merriwether Middle School (MMS) got a taste of what life would be like after high school when they attended the Greenwood Regional Industry Showcase.

The Greenwood Regional Industry Showcase offered students an opportunity to get an idea of what path they would like to choose after high school. It gave them a glimpse into the local industries and businesses located in Greenwood County. During the showcase, students were able to listen to the knowledge and skill sets required to work at specific facilities. They were also able to speak with business representatives to ask questions and learn about the training needed to work at their facilities.

“I really loved the field trip because it was fun to be there with my friends and teachers. I learned a lot there and did a lot of fun things. I am hoping it helps me decide what I want to do later in life,” commented eighth grader at MMS, Rosie Anderson.

Tracy Maroney, school counselor at MMS, shared, “The purpose of this field trip was to get eighth graders starting to think about what their next steps will be as they enter into high school. As an eighth grader, they create an Individualized Graduation Plan (IGP) with me. Having opportunities to explore various paths will help students muddle through the journey of what to do after high school.”
