MS Students Succeed!

Merriwether Middle School students participated in a swim meet along with Strom Thurmond High School Swim Team. The MMS family is very proud of Lauren Strock and Taylor Dean for the great job they did as they competed alongside their older, more experienced teammates at this summer’s competition. Lauren Strock placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke and Taylor Dean placed fourth in the 500 yard freestyle. These two young ladies were swimming against students ranging from 7th to the 12th grade. Way to go Lauren and Taylor!

In addition to success in the pool, our MMS students have also done very well in their musical endeavors. Eighth graders, Brantson Kulp, Rebecca Crawford, Kasey Richardson and Abby Godwin kicked off a brand new football season with STHS by performing with the Strom Thurmond High School Rebel Regiment (marching band). These students were selected by Justin Craig, director of bands STHS, through an audition process. These students will compete alongside members of the Rebel Regiment at the South Carolina State Marching Band Championships in October.

Through practices and rehearsals students learn to deal with failure as opportunity as well learn to work effectively with others. Middle school students are encouraged by events such as the ones mentioned here, to continue to participate in athletics, band and chorus as they move into high school and later, college. MMS is very proud of all these students as they become lifelong learners.
